Remembrance is an important event for us in the Eggbuckland calendar. On Monday we all came together to pay our respects for our Remembrance Service. The service was excellently led by the parade from our cadets and scouts, Casey Mae L, Lola G, Layla S, Isla M, Josh C, Leighton M, Caelan S, Alfie S, Rowan S, Henry P, George M and Connor M with Tia L confidently and compassionately reading ‘In Flanders Fields’ ahead of the 2-min silence. As always, our children were a credit to the College and their families for the respect and empathy they displayed. Many thanks to CPO Donald Keyes and LCpl Jon Hill for coming to join our community for this event.
A huge congratulations for Year 13 and Year 11 for they way they have approached their mock exams over the past two weeks. Students certainly rose to the challenge and approached every exam with maturity and determination to demonstrate their best. Teachers are now busy marking these, ready for our result day next week.
Thank you to Miss Jefferies who took a group of Year 7 and 8 students to the Box on Thursday to take part in some action research, collaborating with Plymouth University, based on Climate Change.
Our students have proudly represented us in a range of sports over the last week, including U14 Badminton, Year 9 Basketball and U12 and U13 Girls Football. Some closely fought competitions and amazing displays of grit, determination, team work and resilience. In lessons, Year 7 to 9 students have been completing the Cross Country; whilst it is fair to say that this has not been everyone’s favourite, I have enjoyed the privilege of seeing our students give their best efforts up on the field with many securing personal bests and ending with a smile! Please see our Sports update for the full details.
Outside of school, we were also thrilled to hear about Maddison R’s success in the Plymouth Speech and Drama Festival scooping 2 Golds (Mime and Lyrical Verse), 4 Silvers (Prose reading, Prose speaking, Impromptu Storytelling and Improvisation acting) and 2 Bronze medals (Solo acting and Poetry). This is incredible news.
We welcome all families to keep us updated on their child’s success outside of school so that we can join in their celebrations.
Now to our Students of Week and winning Sparx Tutor groups.
Finally, we have a new winning Tutor group in Year 7, well done to Mr Stenhouse’s group who have taken over the mantel! In Year 8, Mrs Channing’s group are still smashing it, with Mr Whaley’s in Year 9 and Mrs Nunn in Year 10 with Mr Roberts in close second.
It is also delightful to meet Students of the Week each week and this week was no exception. It is always great to have time to chat to the students and gain their feedback on what is working well, what they love and what they’d like us to change at the College.
This week’s winners are:
Year 7: Matilda G and Laila S
Year 8: Henry S
Year 9: Khloe W
Year 10: Belle B
Year 11: Maddie F
Sixth Form: Isla-Grace B and Seb B.
