We were so proud of the way that Year 11 and 13 conducted themselves during their mock examinations; with maturity and tenacity, so it was great to share the ‘mock’ results day with them last Thursday. Students could experience what ‘results day’ will look and feel like next summer. This event is an important milestone in the Year 11 and 13 calendar. These results give students a clear indication of where they are now in their courses, with six months to go until the majority of the final exams begin. As students reflect on their results, its important that they take on board all of the feedback and advice from their teachers and seek any support they may need – from their teachers, Tutors and the Pastoral Team. Teachers are now shaping their lessons around the remaining content and how the students performed in the papers, to make sure they are as prepared as possible for the next set of mocks in February and then the real exams in the summer months. We know that students understand the importance of achieving the best grades they can to open as many doors as possible for them in their future lives, and we are here to support them every step of the way.
Well done also to Year 11 who, straight after their mocks, completed their English speaking and listening exams – it has been great to talk to students about their topic of choice and hear about their successes.
On a daily basis, students at Eggbuckland go above and beyond what is expected. Over the last two weeks in assembly, we have launched our Golden Ticket scheme which aims to recognise the great things our students do. This scheme aims to recognise and celebrate students who go above and beyond at Eggbuckland, fostering an environment of joy and personal recognition at the College. All staff in College, teachers and support staff, have each been given ten Golden Tickets to award to students over the next three weeks. Students will then post their Golden Tickets in the box in the Main Hall and be entered into a grand prize draw at the end of term, to be in with the chance of winning some excellent prizes. Thank you to local businesses who have donated prizes so far – we are extremely grateful for your generosity and support of the children at Eggbuckland. It has been great to see the excitement from students around the Golden Tickets and the support and praise students have given each other when these have been awarded.
Miss Shepperd has also delivered assemblies on the importance of reading. Every morning our students get stuck into a great book with their Tutor, but this should not replace reading for pleasure, and we encourage all students to read outside of school too. You will see a recommended read on our of Facebook page each week, and this could be a great place to start. Our brilliant Library team are also set to launch some great reading challenges next term. For Year 10 and 11, focus has been on the importance of learning key quotes from their set texts. Currently for Year 11, they are being challenged on the quotes from Macbeth, and for Year 10, An Inspector Calls. Students will be able to put their knowledge to the test through the library quizzes with the chance of winning prizes. Students can also win positive points for impressing teachers with their knowledge of the quotes around school – I have already awarded many students with positive points on the lunch queue who have come to me with correct quotes and the character who said these. Keep it up Year 10 and 11!
In school, as part of our ongoing site upgrades, we have been refurbishing one of our classrooms from an old unused Science lab and soon to become a super new Maths classroom. The on-going redecoration of classrooms and improvement of facilities continues, with standing teacher desks, visualisers and new screens being implemented gradually throughout the school to support the delivery of excellent lessons in an improved environment.
On Thursday, we welcomed Year 11 students and their families to our Sixth Form Open Evening. It was great to see many so people in attendance and considering Eggbuckland Sixth Form as their Sixth Form of choice. It was wonderful to be able to showcase our Sixth Form offer here at the College, headed up by Mr Calderwood, our Director of Sixth Form. Well done to current Year 12 students Issy M, Callum H and Chloe B who talked so passionately about their transition to Sixth Form life. If you are interested in joining our Sixth Form, please visit our website or contact us directly on sixthformadmin@eggbuckland.com.
On Thursday, our Performing Arts team also took a group of students to see War Horse at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth. Thanks to our staff for organising this for our students – for many it was their first trip to the theatre.
